I am a graduate of North Carolina State University's Counseling Program, and a Licensed Professional and National Certified Counselor. I have been in private practice since 2004, and prior to private practice, worked for a residential treatment facility. I often work with clients who seek help for life changes such as adjustment to a developmental stage or a life transition. I also find that in my practice I often work with people who are struggling with more chronic issues, such as depression and anxiety, trauma, ongoing marital or relationship issues, adolescent behavioral and emotional issues, and family conflict. I am particularly interested in women's issues (fertility, post-partum depression, self-esteem, body image, eating disorders); working with athletic populations, and working with couples. I also enjoy working with diverse and multicultural populations. I believe that physical and mental health is a way of living and together we will evaluate how you balance
the mind and the body. I generally follow a client-centered orientation, emphasizing the individual strengths and
resources of each of my clients. My role is to provide compassion, and help provide clarity, as you, the client,
begin to explore, understand and resolve personal issues that are interfering with your ability to live life effectively
and with peace of mind. I believe that counseling is a collaborative process between the family/couple/individual
and the counselor, based upon on time, energy, and commitment, in which insight and tools are gained that will facilitate
continued growth after the therapy has ended.

I am a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College with a degree in Psychology, and I received my Master's degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University. Prior to going into private practice in 2006, I worked for non-profit agencies providing grief and loss counseling for children, teens, and families. In addition to specializing in grief and loss counseling, I also offer treatment in the areas of anxiety, depression,
stress management, couples counseling, and women's issues. I have experience working with children, adolescents,
and adults. My approach to counseling is based on client-centered therapy which focuses on what the client brings to the
therapy process, and allows clients to utilize their skills and resources to discover solutions and develop positive coping
strategies. The counselor's role is to provide a safe and supportive environment, free of judgment or criticism, which
facilitates this process for the client. I also utilize treatment approaches such as cognitive behavioral strategies,
depending on what would best meet the needs of each client.

I received my Master's in Counseling from Argosy University, Atlanta Georgia. As a Licensed Professional Counselor I have enjoyed being in private practice for the past 4 years. Prior to this I worked at Carolina House where I provided support and treatment for those struggling with eating disorders. This experience allowed me to create individualized counseling environments by using theories, concepts and tools from Person Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Art Therapy Activities. I strongly believe in helping each of my clients to develop an understanding of their struggles, as well as helping each individual learn and implement effective thinking, coping techniques and problem solving skills, allowing them to effectively function in their daily lives. Specializing in the treatment of eating disorders I have an understanding of the complexities, stressors and the upheaval
this disorder creates for individuals, their families and/or significant others. Through treatment I will help my clients
and her/his family gain an understanding of the root of the eating disorder and how to effectively manage this disease.
I enjoy working with adolescents, college age individuals and women. My areas of treatment include depression, anxiety, stress,
sexual abuse, social skills, ADD/HD, self-harm and post-partum depression.
